NFL roundup: Payton extended, Falcons add Morris and Seahawks receive rings
The NFL remains active in June: Denver extends Sean Payton, Atlanta acquires Wanya Morris, Carolina extends Jalen Coker and Seattle receives its Super Bowl rings.
Denver commits long-term to Sean Payton
The Denver Broncos have created clarity at head coach. Sean Payton signed a new five-year contract that, according to NFL.com, keeps him with the franchise through the 2030 season. For Denver, it is a clear signal that the football leadership is meant to stay stable.
There was also a positive football update from Denver: quarterback Bo Nix is expected to participate in next week’s mandatory minicamp after dealing with an ankle issue.
Falcons add Wanya Morris, Panthers extend Coker
There was movement on the player market as well. The Atlanta Falcons are acquiring offensive tackle Wanya Morris from the Kansas City Chiefs. According to NFL.com, Kansas City is sending Morris and a seventh-round pick to Atlanta in exchange for a sixth-round selection.
The Carolina Panthers have also locked up wide receiver Jalen Coker. The deal runs for three years and is reportedly worth $35 million, with incentives that can push it up to $41 million.
Bills reshape roster, Chiefs give injury updates
The Buffalo Bills also made several roster moves. Wide receivers Deven Thompkins and Max Tomczak were signed, while Desmond Reid, Gabriel Benyard and Dorian Strong were waived or released.
The Chiefs also provided important injury updates: Patrick Mahomes is expected to be able to do some things in training camp in July. Rashee Rice and Mansoor Delane are also trending toward being ready for camp.
Seattle keeps celebrating
The Seattle Seahawks received their Super Bowl LX championship rings in a private ceremony after minicamp. NFL.com described the rings as especially large and technically advanced, with several details tied to the franchise and its fanbase.
June may feel like an in-between period in the NFL, but contracts, trades, roster moves and injury updates show how actively teams are already working toward training camp.
