AFLE roundup: quarterback race, stat leaders and a new home in Florence
After three weeks, the AFLE is taking shape: Jakeb Sullivan leads the quarterback race, Vienna sets the benchmark and Firenze gets a fixed home venue.
The quarterback race is becoming an early headline
After three game weeks, the AFLE already has several clear storylines. The most obvious one is developing at quarterback. Jakeb Sullivan of Berlin Thunder, Jameson Wang of the Panthers Wroclaw and Ben Holmes of the Vienna Vikings are shaping the league in different ways.
Sullivan leads the passing chart with 978 yards and 9 touchdowns. Wang follows with 744 passing yards, 8 touchdowns and no interception. Holmes may be less flashy, but he is extremely stable: 742 yards, 6 touchdowns, only one interception and, most importantly, a 3-0 start with Vienna.
Stat leaders show early trends
The other leaderboards also tell a lot about the season. Jon Cole of Berlin Thunder leads the receiving categories with 449 yards and 6 touchdowns after three weeks. Vienna’s Karri Pajarinen leads the rushing race with 232 yards, while Alejandro Fernandez tops the pass-rush list with 5 sacks.
London also stands out on defense: Kadel King leads the league with 30 tackles, followed by teammate David Izinyon with 27. It fits the picture of a league in which records alone do not explain everything. London may be 0-3, but according to the AFLE, import spots are still available and the roster could still change during the season.
Firenze gets a permanent home
Away from the statistics, there is also an important organizational update: the Firenze Red Lions will play their remaining five home games at the Stadio Gino Bozzi in Florence. According to the AFLE, the stadium in the Due Strade district offers 3,800 seats, synthetic turf, a covered stand, an away section and full facilities.
For Firenze, this is more than a venue. A fixed home gives a new franchise identity, recognition and a better foundation to build a fanbase in the city.
After three weeks, the AFLE looks open, exciting on offense and still evolving structurally – exactly what makes the next game days interesting.
