More depth for the defense

The Dresden Monarchs are strengthening their defensive line. Canadian lineman Max von Mühldorfer is expected to add flexibility, power and more options up front.

The 24-year-old from Calgary is 1.86 meters tall and weighs 131 kilograms, giving Dresden a physical profile for the interior of the line.

Football and weightlifting background

Von Mühldorfer brings more than football experience. He won gold at the 2023 Pan American Junior Games in weightlifting, is a four-time Canadian junior champion and owns one of Canada’s top clean and jerk marks.

In football, he played for Western University from 2020 and recorded 64 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 31 games.

A clear signal from Dresden

For Dresden, this is more than another roster move. The Monarchs are clearly trying to build a deeper and more physical defense for the current season.

In a long GFL season, depth on the line can become decisive, especially when pressure and run defense matter late in games.

Dresden adds strength, depth and athleticism to the defensive line.
